...The adults who love them.
Hello Everyone and welcome to "TEEN SPEAK!"
I'm back again with my column that is most directed towards young people.
Teen Speak is where I write about the concerns of teens and young adults. Right from the beginning of creating this column back in early 2009, I have publicly encouraged the young people to provide comments and story ideas from their points of view. Your input is important! You want your parents, teachers and other adults in your life to "understand" you then let it out utilizing EVERY POSITIVE vehicle that is available for you in which to do that! Feel free to use my column as one of your vehicles. I, ENCOURAGE YOU! I'm still waiting for your input. Although this presented itself to me a few days back, I recall my son also speaking to me about writing something to assist young people in making good decisions. So here you go!
Today's subject matter is Wisdom.
I know, I know! Wisdom?
Some of you are saying "couldn't she come up with something more fun?"
Nope. Wisdom may not be a fun topic, but it sure is needed! Especially in this day and age, where adults and youth alike seem to have forgotten about her. And oh yes, historians refer to wisdom as a "she". In any case, many of you young people believe that your own thoughts are where wisdom begins and ends. But that's OK because you're still young and you still have much growing to do! By the way, this may hurt, but you know how some of you think "WHEN I GET GROWN, MY PARENTS AND NOBODY ELSE WILL BE ABLE TO TELL ME NOTHING! I'M GONNA MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS AND LIVE THE WAY I WANT TO LIVE!! Hmph.", (even if you know they know better).
With Wisdom, no matter how old you get in years, she will always know more than you! Like those adults that are available and ready to teach you right, Wisdom too will not be out of your reach. She may come in through a good or bad situation that you experienced. She may "speak" to you in your own thoughts. She may come through another person like your teacher, coach, neighbor or friend. She may even (and will) use someone you don't know or even like! Maybe she came through that cop that arrested you for being out of order! She may come through something you read or something else you were looking at. Wisdom is unlimited in how she works. So much so, that she can even work through a child to get to you! The thing is, however she comes, Wisdom is always there waiting to guide you. She's always waiting for you to ask for and receive her!
Here is something else! Like the adults you may "dupe" from time to time, know that you can't outsmart Wisdom. She will always be wiser than you will ever be! "Wisdom was present even at the beginning (of Creation)." Although "she" is very, very old, wisdom is still "cool", "hip", "sick", "wicked" or "down with it" (whatever phrase you all are using now!) The bottom line is, wisdom is always willing to share herself with you! Even in her old age and knowing, she is not arrogant, selfish or stubborn. She makes herself readily available to you, to us all! She does this for your benefit and the benefit of those around you. Young people, do something very wonderful for yourself,and start seeking her now! Whenever a situation or decision comes up, think before you act. Weigh the Pros and Cons (the good and bad) of the situation before you say or do something that you may very much regret later! Choose carefully and proceed with caution in whatever you decide to do, especially when it comes to sex, babies, abortions, relationships, friendships, acquaintances, gangs, education, family, peer pressure dares, lying and other things that may weigh heavy on you. REMEMBER, YOU ARE THE ONLY YOU, THAT YOU HAVE! YOU CANT' BE REPLACED!
Life, is not a do over!
Know this too, most adults understand that you are facing very difficult times right now, in the times we live in . We, as adults, (most of us) know and understand whole heartily, your struggles with peer pressure, drugs, alcohol, school, broken home turmoil, suicide, homosexuality, lesbianism, religion, betrayal by friends and potential mates. We understand first love excitement and the confusion. Remember WE, adults, were teens once too! And though the times may have been different, the problems and struggles we faced, weren't any different than what you are facing now! Granted the level and number of the struggles you face have multiplied many times over, but they still aren't that different!
There was pressure on girls and boys too to have sex when your Grandparents, parents and I were teens and young adults. (Keep in mind I was born in 1967 and I'm only 42 1/2 years young, Thank you very much!) Young people have been getting pregnant for centuries outside of marriage. (By the way, I didn't say it was smart to do. I was just stating fact! Actually, it' s not a a smart thing for anybody to do! But we'll talk abut that in another column. Remind me by commenting on this page if I forget. OK?)
The thing is, wisdom is good for all ages! Wisdom is no respecter of person. Meaning she doesn't discriminate. If you want wisdom, all you have to do is ask God for it and be open to it. Wisdom, by the way, does not conform or go along with just what YOU think it should be! Wisdom speaks truth! And you don't have to like truth. You just have to accept it if you really want Wisdom's help! Let me share something very special with you young people alright?
An old Proverb says : (* By the way, Proverbs are wise sayings that teach us how to live and conduct ourselves in any situation.)
The following are words of King Solomon, the wisest of all kings.
I read that he wrote 3000 proverbs!
"For attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight;
for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, (prudent~ do what Momma say and look it up!) doing what is right and just and fair;
For giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young--
Let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance--
for understanding proverbs and parables, (parables are...) the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."
Listen my son, to your Father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching
They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck."
*Please note: The writer is talking about if you have wise parents that offer helpful information to you that will better your life, not add sorrows to it!
Proverbs chapter 1 verses 1-9. Check your Holy Bible. I used my sons N.I.V. (New International Version )* Devotional Bible, Classic Edition.
Young people,
Take heart to what I have written.
Wisdom is an unspoken necessity of life, but
You can not live a decent life without her!
Take heed, better to start acquiring her services sooner than later.
Take care, Ms. Meetta
