My "Teen Speak" column, is to give the young people voice as well as to encourage and inspire them. In this column, I write about topics that are of concern to them and are of concern about them! I hope that in these words, the young people, pre-teen, "tween", and right on up through their early 20's, hear a voice of wisdom, of love and of experience. I hope that you receive this and come to know that WE hear you! We understand. We share with you in your life's' journey. YOU are NOT alone!
THIS particular article is dedicated to my son. These words are dedicated to ALL sons! Though I am a mother, wisdom knows no bounds. It is not limited to gender. As I had no one, not even my sons Dad to rely on for regular assistance in the raising and teaching of our son, I had but one recourse. And that was to seek a higher force. This action caused me to reach for the love of God. to seek it. to embrace it. To give over and to give into it! In seeking a new way for myself, learning of my own individuual purpose, including being a "good" mother to my son inspite of circumstances and self, I had to move into a new way of thinking, move into a new way of being! The more I embraced and grew in what I found, a thirst and hunger grew for that higher which I couldn't even see!
So in reverence to that, which God is and represents.... wisdom, faith, love, preservation, protection, redemption and insight, knowledge, understanding, patience and victory is what brings me to this point in this writing. My reliance on hope in the victory of my journey with my son to raise him to be a productive, sound-minded, man of integrity is how we got here, to the 20th anniversary of his birth! Because we got here, is why I choose to share the following words of Proverbs chapter 2!
Though not in the flesh, did such a father exist for my son, my son's still making it! Because through the "spirit of God", divine inspiration, words of a loving Father still found their way to him. And these words are just as real and speak to my son's life, as if a fleshly father would have done the honor. Here, A Loving Father Speaks to a Son in wisdom, sincerity, honesty, openness, in hope and compassion. These words are to guide, direct, protect and light the sons path as he makes his way through life and emerges onto the path of completing his purpose in righteousness.
FOR MY SON who is soon turning 20 and will be experiencing a new part of life as a young mature man stepping into his own, it has compelled me to send out this message. It was not easy raising a boy as a single woman. I've done the best I can by taking comfort in the wise. Trust that wisdom sons and remember it as you step into a new dimension of life and encounter its struggles as well as its victories...but encountering them as a prepared man and not as an unknowing child!
I am preparing to send my son out covered and drenched with these words of a loving Father. My son soon will be stepping out on his own without Mother to clear the way for him. It will soon be my time to step back into the shadows just a little further as my son steps a little bit farther out from me. As he stretches his "man" wings, I call out "Fly Baby Boy, Fly"! Fly wearing the "full armor of God", believing he has a purpose filled destiny for you to meet, greet embrace, walk, run and live in! Don't Stop now!
Brad, May Gods Grace and Mercy always be with you.
Fly, filled with ever growing desire for knowledge and wisdom!
And may these words always follow you, echoing in your heart.
Be wise my son! Be wise.
* Son, my heart breathed when I saw the following passage on your computer after you went to bed. You didn't know that I saw it.
For having seen it, I have to tell you that I get it, Son! I get now why you tell me you hear me.
And I can hear YOU for the 1000sdth time even now as you sleep, saying
"Mom, I hear your lessons and they help me even when you are not around. No seriously! I can hear your voice on certain things even when you are not around! I know you love me! But God speaks to me and my heart too! I'm going to be OK, Mom! Thank you for believing." )
Proverbs 2 (New International Version)
Moral Benefits of Wisdom
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding,
3 and if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds victory in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
13 who leave the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
14 who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
15 whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
16 It will save you also from the adulteress,
from the wayward wife with her seductive words,
17 who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.
18 For her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.
19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
20 Thus you will walk in the ways of good men
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,
and the blameless will remain in it;
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
With Love
