ON HER SOAP BOX - "THE POOR..."

"On Her Soap Box"...

is where I write what frustrates me or gets my goat. My writing consists of ideas from all around me.

Today, I'm putting out a thought that has haunting qualities. I know because it has plagued me on more than one occasion in my somewhat long life. It has risen up again this fine holiday, terribly depressed financial season! So therefore, rather than stew in it,

I choose to speak the through aloud.

By doing so, I bring it up out of me, discarding it in order to clear a way for peace to settle in.

So, here goes.....

Ahmm! AHMMM! cough. cough. Excuse me. (I'm clearing my throat.)

I'm ready now and Thank you for your patience.

So here it goes...

"THE POOR HAVE NO FRIENDS!"

I'm not saying that people don't care and won't show you love and won't offer assistance, because THAT'S NOT TRUE! They will, they have and many will continue to be that supportive to you in your time of need. There are many individuals and organizations out here fighting against poverty, feeding the hungry, clothing and sheltering the poor, helping any which way they can! But it is also written that "THE POOR YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE WITH YOU", because of the (wickedness that lurks ...) in the hearts of man (mankind), including control, selfishness, and high-minded, or narrow-minded thinking.

People will assist you and stand in your corner, proving to be "good" friends and neighbors and family members too will be there for you! I'm not saying that you won't have at least one friend or loved one in you corner standing by you at all times! What I am saying is this, be poor too long and you will see very quickly, in many cases (sometimes it take longer) how some people can really be! Being poor is like being sick. In either case, be that way too long and you will see people drift away and people have different reasons for doing so!

Especially, if you are not handling your situation the way THEY think should!

It needs to be said that I'm not criticizing, I'm just stating fact!

People will put you down to your face, behind your back, laugh at you telling others how bad you are doing because you are poor, haven't much money. ESPECIALLY if you are not doing what THEY think you should be doing! Oh sure! People will give you a handout or a loan, EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T WANT IT because YOU KNOW you can't easily pay it back! And understandably, you don't want to keep adding to the short or long list of people and companies you already owe and struggling to pay back!

But GET A GOOD IDEA TO HELP YOURSELF, an idea that's proven to make you YOUR OWN cash, putting to good use the God given gifts, talents that YOU have and you will find many of those frustrated with you and even those belittling you, won't support it!

I, for one have experienced this with family and friends alike.

And it's something that I just don't understand!!

But then, I'm reminded that it goes back to the hearts of mankind.

See, when I hear of people (especially those close to me) doing something productive for themselves that will increase their quality of life, depending on others less, I support them whenever and however I can! Whether with kind supportive, encouraging words, or helping them directly to do whatever it is that they are trying to do!

Listen, if they are more dependent on themselves than others, that's a burden off of others that somebody may not be able to bare! Plus, it shows that persons initiative in taking charge to change their own situation! If their idea to help themselves up, is proven, then it has the potential of growing that person's self-esteem, ambition and will provide more rewards for them over time continuously, rather than if I gave them a one time handout! AND THAT KIND OF PERSON, may just prove to be a great asset to society by giving back, encouraging others, lifting them up to do the same!
And if you are a True christian or True Godly believer, then you know this kind of reward, God will be sure pleased about, because he and he alone, will get the glory out of the a persons life. Oh! Hallelujah!
And isn't that what this is really about! Blessing lives, pleasing and glorifying God, inspite of self!
