ON HER SOAP BOX-STREET BEGGARS

Hey Readers,
This is the column where I write what I'm passionate about. You know the stuff that gets my goat! Though that could be for better or for worse. Either way, this is where I say it, direct and out loud and direct! Yep! I'm a bit...irate about his one...

Street Beggars and what I noticed one day
as I passed by, yet another!

It is unfortunate that people are so desperate in America that spending hour upon hour, out on the streets begging. Now, I KNOW with my intelligent brain, that not everyone out there begging are doing so to fill a basic need. I've seen them, smelled them as I walked past and even been privy to their alcoholic breath while they are talking to me. 'Cause sometimes,
(like many of you) I've stopped to see if I could help! I know I can't save the world, but their is hat innate human desire to care for my kin, (human kind). It has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with race, creed or culture when it comes to people in need. AMERICA, you have shown that time and time again, when you send money, medical supplies, food, water and people oversees in the time of world crisis!
But, there are many more of you that think it IS a race thing! Those damn begging niggers! "Those stinking spics" , "I'm not helping that Poor white trash".

There is a beggar with a sign near an intersection.
"WHY DON'T YOU GET A JOB!", a person yelled from their car as they stopped at a stop light in the inner city!
As I walk past the situation, coming from the grocery store, I wonder, "why don't you give them one?
(I think I may have even yelled that out in disgust.) Or they should have at least pull over, take a few moments to ask a few questions to find out what's going on with them." I mean, since that person felt so strongly about spewing out such a remark as he did! In any case, the person begging, didn't flinch, but moved just enough to keep an eye on the person in the car until they passed. Many others just passed the beggar in their cars, which is their right of choice! Then, there are some that stop at the light, and gave financial help, words of prayer etc..

There is one driver I noticed, that pulled up to the light, but just past the beggar.
This driver tried to back up his car, but a car rode up behind him. The first driver rolled down his window, handed out a fist of change, motioning to the beggar. The beggar eyed the person and quickly accepted the fist of money. I just kept walking with my groceries, knowing I couldn't be of financial service to the person as I was tied up in my "pay check to pay check" way of living right now! I didn't even a have a few cent on me to give, as I recall walking with my groceries for my son and I.

So unfortunate we live in America, a very rich country and still are struggling the way many of us citizens are! So unfortunate. While it is true that many beggars in this country are dubious, scandals, many more ARE ACTUALLY in situations that they need this extra help! In this country, you still have young children (usually boys) at the gas station and grocery stores asking can they pump your gas or carry your groceries for a few cents. I've seen many young kids selling sandwich bags of candy on the street corners and on the city buses. So many families in America, are suffering financially enough to cause begging among the adults and "hustling" amongst their children.

Then again, many of them are the begging adults, though they don't seem to be working at a job, but somehow find the energy to stand many hours on the street begging. Granted, some of them have disabilities, mental or emotional problems (not always so obvious) that won't allow for them to work in a "normal" work setting. I happen to know of a woman (though she is not a beggar) whose mental troubles wont allow her to work in a traditional work setting. She has "episodes" where she starts to exude claustrophobic behavior, she often finds it hard to concentrate . Still, her need for money to help provide for her family, forced her to try to get ta traditional job to supplement her monthly Disability allotment. Unfortunately, the job didn't last for long, she was doing well for awhile, then she started missing work, as pressure at home was getting to her. When she was there, after a while, she was messing up alot and was really not performing well. She quit, before they could fire her. Now, she doesn't work, but volunteer for a local church organization and has settled for just receiving her Monthly Disability allotment.

BUT back to the beggars of America! Shouldn't they be able to get some assistance to get them off the streets. Not that many of them are looking to do so! Because the average person walking past a beggar, can't tell the "good guy" beggars" from the "bad guy" beggars, we are at a loss and many of us just pass by, ignoring them. Try as some of us might, the average citizen can't help them all! While many of them have legitimate needs, many, many other beggars are doing so to support their drug, alcohol, and gambling habits as well! I am a city dweller and I take public transportation and
I also walk alot, and I have been privy to some actions and conversations confirming the sort. Some of them were so bold as to denounce the ones who have given them money or food, "they are so stupid, if they only knew." AGAIN,
I MAINTAIN, THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT BEGGARS WITH DIFFERENT NEEDS.
SOME ARE "GOOD GUY" BEGGARS WITH legitimate needs. SOME ARE NOT!

PLEASE DONOT CONDEMN THEM ALL, FOR WHAT THE "BAD GUY" BEGGARS DO!

BYE!
